How do house clearances work?

Most people will have never needed the services of a house clearance company before so you might be unsure of how it all works.

The good news is that it's probably a lot simpler and more straightforward than you might think.

1. Decide what you want to keep

The first step is for you to decide what you want us to take and what you'd like to keep.

2. Assessing the property

The next step is for us to assess your property so we can provide you with a quote and an estimate of how long clearing the house will take.

We will take note of exactly what you'd like us to take or leave behind.

  • If you think there are valuable items to be cleared then we recommend that we visit the property first to give you the most accurate quote - we can often offset the price of saleable items against the cost of the clearance.
  • If you prefer to send us some photos (or video) and a description of the items to be cleared via email, Facebook, or WhatsApp, we may be able to provide a quote without having to visit the property.

We don't want to put you under any pressure and we're more than happy to give you time and space to consider our quote and compare quotes from other house clearance companies.

When you're getting any quotes, make sure that the company is registered with the Environment Agency. If they can't provide you with a valid registration number and aren't registered with the Environment Agency, they are breaking the law taking any items away from your property.

We are an Upper Tier Waste Carrier and Dealer, and our registration number is CBDU343055.

Our quotes are all-inclusive and there are no hidden surcharges.

3. Arranging a date and time

We can arrange a convenient date and time to carry out your house clearance. A typical house clearance usually takes us between half a day and a day to complete.

  • If you live locally we can either meet you at the property or arrange to collect the keys from you and return them when we are finished.
  • If you live further away we can meet a family member, friend, neighbour, or estate agent at the property to collect the keys. We can also post them back to you if needed.

4. The day of the clearance

It is completely up to you to decide if you would like to be present on the day of the clearance.

Some people can find it upsetting to see belongings leaving the house and may find it less stressful to be somewhere else while the house is cleared. We are happy to work alone and let you know when we've finished.

If the job isn't going to take us a long time then you may want to wait at the house to save you travelling backwards and forwards.

Wherever possible we always like you to take a look at the property before we leave to make sure you are happy with our work.
